Kevin Lemon : Fighting for the right tone

(From BASS to “GAYSS”?)

VOX YOMI’S POTENTIALLY LAST SONG W/ KEVIN ON BASS⤴️ [JAPAN 2026 PROMO]

Kevin Lemon of VOX YOMI goes over his post-tour switch to a new hybrid 7-string guitar/bass in pursuit of the best tone.

Even better than one tone, a multi-output guitar, with offset pickups to pick up the bass and guitar gauge strings separately!

We will let Kev explain the multi-tone setup from here:

Yeah, I bought it from a dude on eBay.  It came stock with the lowest string as a D string, like the middle string on a five string bass.  Similar to how Charlie Hunter would string it up, but one string lower, I think his lowest string is a G…. I have my Luther file out the nut and the bridges on the low end so that I could fit taper core low B as the lowest string. I’ve got it tuned open B.  It’s a bit insane and I’ve messed around with a few different tunings, but this is the one that I like and it’s really unusual. I’ve not seen this tuning before.  BF#BBF#BF#

Limitations are the mother of invention…

I just realized I left out one detail. The dude I bought it from on eBay bought the parts from a Chinese guitar company named MUSOO/BATKING.  Or maybe he just bought it stock from them and re-sold it to me. I’m not quite sure…
